The inaugural Snow Park NZ Junior Armada Slopestyle went off with a bang today under bright blue skies.
The picture perfect snow conditions and purpose built terrain park beckoned a hoard of 45 junior freeskiers, eager to show their skill and style in the opening event of the NZ competition season.

Podium regulars from Wanaka, Beau-James Wells, 14, and Jackson Wells, 12, took the top spots in the Junior and Youth boys divisions, respectively. Nine year old Manu Barnard, also of Wanaka, took out the Grommets division.

In the girls divisions, Queenstown’s Adie Lawrence,16, took out the top spot in the Juniors, while Olivia Jones, 11, of Wanaka and Maggie Little, nine, of Albert Town reigned supreme in the Youth and Grommets age divisions.

“It was great to have Snow Park’s triple line opened and to see the kids getting out there again,” said Head Judge Dion Newport. “The lillypad feature was a big hit with the kids and the course had something for everyone.”

The event continues tomorrow with the Rossignol Snowboard Slopestyle.
The Snow Park Junior Slopestyle is part of the NZ National Points Tour (www.snowsports.co.nz) giving every rider the opportunity to score points towards becoming overall National Junior Champion. The event is also is also the first stop on the new Armada Ski’s ‘Rat Bag Tour’ (www.armadanz.com).
