Junior Freeskiers Shine at the Armada Freeski Slopestyle

Junior Freeskiers showcased skill and style today for day two of Snow Park NZ’s junior event, the Armada Freeski Slopestyle.

“We’ve had an awesome sunny day with lots of super stoked kids. Everyone made the most of a perfect course,” said Head Judge, Tori Beattie.

Alec Savery, 15, from Queenstown and Wanaka’s Jackson Wells, 12, took the top spots in the Junior and Youth boys divisions, respectively.

“It’s perfect weather and Snow Park looks sick,” said Savery. “This competition was a super great introduction to the year, and catered perfectly for even the grommies.”

“The first jump was really nice and floaty and it was a great event put on by Armada and Rossignol. I hope they do it in future years,” said Wells who also won last year.

Nine year old Nico Porteous, of Perth, took out the Grommets division.

“My favorite trick was fives over the second jump. It was a pretty nice course,” said Porteous.

In the Girls Divisions, Wanaka’s Olivia Jones, 12, won the Youth Division, while Maggie Little, nine, of Albert Town reigned supreme in the Girls Grommets Division.

“I was really nervous at first, but I pulled it off,” said Little. “The terrain was awesome, and all the staff were so nice!”

Along with the division winners, riders with top results in their age group were also acknowledged.

Chief of Comp, Josh Clark sighted Alec Savory’s run as the highlight of his day.

“Alec’s runs, seeing five year old Gustav grabbing over the jumps and watching all the brother combinations battle it out were the highlights of my day,” said Chief of Comp, Josh Clarke.

The Junior Pipe Fun Jam has been postponed to September, with a date soon to be announced.

SPNZ FS JNR SLOPE_FULL_RESULTS

The Snow Park Junior Slopestyle is part of the NZ National Points Tour (www.snowsports.co.nz) giving every rider the opportunity to score points towards becoming overall National Junior Champion. The event is also the first stop on the new Armada Ski’s ‘Rat Bag Tour’ (www.armadanz.com)
