July 18: Mountain Dew Nights Sessions #2 Results

The second round of the Mountain Dew Night Sessions was held at The Snow Park on Thursday the 17th.  With many of the riders from the previous round returning to have another shot at the great prize pool, and with 2 weeks to practice on the stair feature, the level of riding had risen substantially from round 1.

Callie Conaghan and Shelly Gotleib returned to represent for the females, and with other riders such as Christy Prior and Charlotte Trundle there, the competition was intense.  The Judges had a hard time deciding which trick of Christy Priors should be named best trick, and decided in the end just to say she “took it out with a display of hammers and steeze”.

International rider Jordan Rehrer, fresh back on the scene, representing Revolution Snowboards and Ride team member Joe Mackenzie went trick for trick.  They succeeded to get the crowd and riders pumped with an amazing display of riding.  Jordan took out Best Trick with a backside 270 on, 270 off the down rail.

The riders got to warm up and jib the night away to the sounds of live local DJ Concrete Mixer, and listen to the smooth voice of MC Zinny. The crowd on the snow got to stay warm around a blazing fire and enjoy the drinks and food that flowed from the Woolshed Bar and Restaurant.

Jordan Reher (24) took out the first male prize of $300 cash again this week, earning himself another 9 points to go towards his final standing in the series.   He is now sitting on 18 points.  Joe Mackenzie (20) took out second for the males gaining 6 points and a $200 Quest voucher.  Tom Grooten (19) earned himself some more points to his last weeks tally by coming in third.  He got himself 3 points and a $150 Quest voucher.  Tom is now sitting on a total of nine points.

In the female division Christy Prior (19) placed first receiving $200 cash and 9 points.  Charlotte Trundle, who received 6 points and a $100 Quest voucher, closely followed her.  Charlotte is now on 9 points.  Snow Park NZ team rider Shelly Gotlieb came in 3rd place ($50 Quest voucher- 3 points) taking her total for the Mountain Dew Night Sessions to 9 points.

Young riders such as Justin Smith and Christian Low were there representing the Auckland, throwing down the tricks they have been practicing on the impressive stair feature.  Since it’s opening on the 4th of July the stair feature has been in constant use and providing an awesome challenge for all riders who hit it.  The Park crew and staff at Snow Park have been working hard maintaining the stair feature and all the other features around the park, as well as putting up and shaping new features each night.

Everyone is excited to see what the next Mountain Dew Night Sessions event will bring!  It is scheduled to take place on August 7, followed by one on the 28th, and then finishing with an invitational final on Friday, September 5th.

Mountain Dew, Quest and Jameson Whisky proudly sponsor mountain Dew Night Sessions.
